Choosing a Counsellor

This guide will help you learn how to search for a counsellor and use the filters on our website.

Choosing a Counsellor

Searching by Location, Name or Keyword

To find a counsellor who offers in-person services near you:

  1. Click the Name dropdown menu and change it to Location.

  1. In the City, Postal Code, Address… box, type your city/town or postal code.

  2. Click Select distance to choose how far you are willing to travel.

  3. If a Care Navigator recommended a specific counsellor, you can also type their name in the Name field.

  4. To search by keyword, change the dropdown menu to Keyword. You can type anything (for example: “anxiety,” “Mandarin,” “teen,” “trauma”) to see counsellors who match that condition, language, age group, specialty, or topic.

Using Filters to Refine Your Search

You can use one or many filters (up to 12) to narrow your results.

  1. Click any filter’s dropdown menu to see the options.

  2. Choose what you need.

    • Example: If you need a counsellor who speaks Mandarin, choose Mandarin under Languages Spoken.

    • The list of counsellors will update instantly.

  3. Repeat this for any other filters you want to use.

    • The number in brackets beside each filter option shows how many counsellors match that choice.

  4. All filters you selected will appear at the top of the results.

    • Click the X beside a filter to remove it.

  5. To view counsellors who only offer In-Person or Online services, click the In Person or Online button under the search box.

To remove all filters at once, click Clear Filters.

Viewing Counsellor Profiles

Your search results will update based on your filters.

  1. To open a counsellor’s full profile, click anywhere on their profile card.

  2. Scroll down the profile to read more about them and see their office locations (if they have one).

  3. At the bottom of the profile, you will find the counsellor’s email and phone number if you want to contact them.

    • You need your Unique Client Identification Number (UCIN) and approved sessions to book an appointment.

    • If you do not have this information, please contact a Care Navigator before reaching out to a counsellor.

  4. To go back to your search results, click Back to Search Results at the top of the profile or use your browser’s back button.
